Penumbral Drift

Shot in the span of a day, Penumbral Drift is a continuous loop combining video footage of illusive shadow forms with rotoscope animation to create a meditative reflection on time and space. Drawing from the imagery in the installation Half in Dream, the visual transformations within each scene are created by the movement of our planet in relation with our sun along with capricious shifting weather. The pace keeps time with the slow rhythms of the earth and the cavernous landscapes of our tiny neighbors.

Half in Dream

Situated on the line that divides our interior space with the exterior world of elemental forces and other-than-human creatures, the sculpture is a three- dimensional collage of collected natural ephemera from the outside looking in, and a two-dimensional projection of light and shadow from the inside looking out.

The left detail is a panel of the installation from the exterior side, containing the 3d collage of natural materials. The right detail image contains the same panel as seen from the interior (screen-side) of the piece.
A series of community events and experiments accompanied the gallery installation including meditation sessions, video
projection shows, a plant printing workshop, a walking excursion with the artwork, and a final burning ceremony.

These three botanical drawings are from a set of six, depicting plants native to California. The series was commissioned by a San Fransisco biotech company for display in their office headquarters.
Space and Time, Portal, & Lookout

Three digital collage pieces from a series of twelve. Made with a patient process of collecting natural materials and transforming them into photographic collage material, these images represent the second iteration of visual experiments in the "shadow world."
